Beautifully sustainable: travel mug
WAKEcup
When we need something, instead of getting the same Bestie and I like to find two great options so that we can compare. Everything is relative. After her devastation about Frank Green's contactless tech not working in the UK, it was the clever name of this option that got her interested. She's a sucker for a pun.
I was slightly envious of it being a normal, lightweight mug that feels great to drink from. They've designed the lid so that the little slit isn't the point - no weird travel-mug-face while drinking. Also no super weird sucking-from-an-oddly-placed-hole-face, like with my Frank Green.
While I like my coffee to stay hot, Bestie wants it drinkable quickly and therefore tolerates it a bit on the cold side. So we were equally delighted that her mug has no pretentions of maintaining beverage temperatures. It got cold way too quickly for me. Up to that point she thought she'd found her winner.
Running for the bus one day, after a pitstop at the French bakery in Midhurst, Bestie learnt that her cup is not as spill-proof as WAKECup claims. Her Covid-19 mask (among other things) soaked and the last bus leaving, she hated WAKECup, at least for the duration of that soggy 1.5hr journey.
The last downside to this beautifully sustainable option is actually kind of a feature of one aspect of that sustainability. After just two months, we noticed a slight rust stain appearing near the rim. Bestie adores the fact that the mug is fully decomposable - i.e. the metal bits will rust over time. We just didn't expect it to start so soon!
