When we discovered milk chocolate didn't make us feel good, we were lucky that we already loved it's dark alter ego. Initially we poured ourselves into that love for its bitter comfort. But our love deepened as we learnt more about it's exceptional nutrient value too.
We dallied a few dark frogs before learning about each brands commitment to organic and fair trade cacao and the difference between dark chocolate and cacao/cocoa. Our knowledge grew, we became wiser, and now we benefit!
Here's what we found:
Dark chocolate keeps you happy, helps fight fatigue and anxiety
- Dark chocolate is rich in plant-based antioxidants - which has a range of other benefits like helping your skin stay youthful and radiant
- It stimulates release of all our feel-good hormones incl our hormones that makes us feel inlove
- Its a good source of protein, fibre & magnesium (which supports healthy teeth & bones).
If we still have your attention, we think you might love these facts:
Chocolate is made of cocoa, which is the more processed version of cacao. Unroasted cacao is packed with goodness (fiber & nutrients) and raw cacao products usually contain no sugar or other additives. Dark chocolate is still super healthy but loses some of its nutrient value in processing (how much depends on how different brands produce their chocolate and how much cocoa the chocolate contains). It also usually contains sugar, flavourants and other additives. This is where you read your labels of each brands dark chocolate to be more aware of the things in it!
Green & Blacks brand is incredible as it is free from other additives and they are committed to using ethically sourced cacao beans, and the way they produce their cacao is unrefined which is a WIN because it means it has all the nutrients & benefits mentioned above PLUS it tastes delicious.
Taste = Delicious. Velvety, soft and bitter but with a natural sweetness. Great to make hot chocolate with oat milk.
Sustainability: ♡♡♡
"Cacao beans are organic ethically sourced and fairtrade approved, they add minimal additional ingredients, and the cherry on top; they are committed to keeping the cocoa as unrefined as possible (no alkali processing - check your labels!!)
